Our Story
Born and bred in Durban, we grew up in a home where food, family and laughter were always at the centre of everything. Those playful beginnings sparked lifelong passions.
Kim’s Culinary Journey
As the older sister, Kim was the first to turn her love of food into a career. She earned her chef’s diploma at SA Chefs Academy and founded Salt & Sage, a bespoke catering company offering interactive cooking classes, private dining, and bespoke event menus. Over the years, she honed her craft - from designing seasonal platters to sourcing the freshest local produce - and built a reputation for heartfelt hospitality and impeccable attention to detail.
Jess’s Path to the Pass
Jess took a slightly winding route: after completing a Psychology degree through the University of London, she followed her sister’s footsteps into the kitchen, also earning her chef’s diploma at SA Chefs Academy. While juggling freelance work at Salt & Sage, she fell in love with recipe development and the joy of feeding a crowd. Her background in psychology uniquely informs our approach to food as an experience - one that nourishes both body and soul.
Sisterhood in the Kitchen
In early 2024, we decided to join forces full‑time, merging our complementary strengths into a singular vision. Working side by side has been a dream come true: we anticipate each other’s needs, balance creativity with efficiency, and turn every challenge into an opportunity for a laugh. Our bond as sisters means we can push each other to innovate while always having each other’s back.
From Dream to Reality
Today, under the banner of The Dressing Room Café, we bring together everything we’ve learned - passion for seasonal, ingredient‑led cooking; flair for thoughtful presentation; and a warm, inclusive spirit that makes everyone feel at home. Nestled inside Weylandts Green Point, our café is more than a place to eat: it’s the physical embodiment of our shared dream, where design meets deliciousness, and every dish tells a story of family, friendship, and flavour.
